Passion For Chocolate

Galler Chocolatiers S.A was founded in 1976 by Jean Galler, a graduate of the Hotel Business School of Liège and trainee at Gaston Lenôtre in Paris. 

Mr. Galler was born into an environment of luxury dessert foods and took great pleasure in working at the family’s confectionery shop, which had been founded by his grandfather in 1930.  At the age of 21, Mr. Galler launched his own enterprise, Galler Chocolatiers S.A..  He developed the “Chocolat-Thé” concept that combines restaurant, café and shop, with an emphasis on customer presentation, exceptional service, and a high quality product.  A unique feature distinguishing this concept is the transparency of its operation where customers are invited to view the creation of chocolate from the cocoa bean and observe the roasting and grinding process, traditionally a closely guarded secret.

Although the business has grown considerably since 1976, the foundations on which it was built remain the same:

Today the enterprise is run by a team of over 80 employees who design, produce, and market pralines, ice-creams, chocolate patisseries, filled chocolate bars, as well as chocolate tablets, cats’ tongues, spreads, bite-sized chocolates, Easter eggs, fruit jellies, sugar free chocolate, and gifts.


Galler has developed a range of outlets to sell its products, from a small Chocolate Corner, which may be established within a department store and sells a limited range; a Chocolate ‘Bar’ an Espace Passion, which may be a stand alone store and stocks a wider range of product; and the restaurant/café concept “Chocolat-Thé” with an all-day dining menu as well as chocolate counter.

Since its inception, Galler Chocolatiers has branched out across the globe to create a network of stores and cafes in Belgium, France, Luxemburg, Japan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the United States.

In France alone, we currently have 7 boutiques and our products can be found in the most prestigious Parisian department stores including Galleries Lafayette and Le Bon Marché. In the US, the Galler brand is sold in Dean & Deluca as well as in its own boutique. In Japan there are 7 Galler boutiques in the low season going up to an impressive 200 outlets in the high season.

Its products can be found in Belgium in more than 2,000 sales outlets, in addition to overseas locations in more than 20 countries through selected partners.

In the Middle East, Galler through one of its partners in this region, the Al Tayer group (www.altayer.com) has more than 8 outlets.

Al Tayer is the exclusive licensee of the Harvey Nichols brand for the UAE. Galler also has outlets in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan.

Through innovation, diligence, and concentration on quality, Jean Galler has earned an impressive standing among chocolate-makers worldwide.

He and Galler Chocolatiers SA have consistently been awarded medals, honours, and other merits over the last 14 years.  At the age of 39, Mr. Galler was elected Manager of the Year and in September 2001, President of the Association of Chocolate-Makers, CHOPABISCO.

The most prestigious award, however, is undeniably the appointment as “Belgian Royal Warrant Holder” awarded to the company in 1994.  In 2002, Galler received the “Innovation Prize” for the concept of “Chocolat- Thé” at the Franchise Fair of Brussels.
